Shingo took us round Yasaka Shrine, through Hanamikoji, past Yasui Kompira-gu and on towards the Yasaka Pagoda. We hit golden hour almost exactly, which made the photographs.

We covered a lot of ground in three hours, but the group was much bigger than I expected and there are no headsets. Only the three or four people nearest the guide could hear him, and I ended up looking places up on my phone.

Our guide was good, but it poured and the tour ran anyway. If heavy rain is forecast for your date I would move it rather than walk three hours in it.

Wear proper shoes. It is a hike, and the surface goes from asphalt to gravel to dirt, so it is uneven in the dark.

The stories were interesting but the pace sagged towards the end, with a fair amount of standing about. You also cannot see much of a forest in the dark, and torches are not allowed, so manage your expectations on that.
